The visualizer is drawn by your computer’s graphics (GPU). If you see lag or dropped frames, work through these steps in order. Press D during playback to see your live frame rate.
1. Turn on hardware acceleration in your browser
- Chrome: Menu (⋮) → Settings → System → switch on Use graphics acceleration when available → click Relaunch.
- Edge: Menu (…) → Settings → System and performance → switch on Use graphics acceleration when available → Restart.
- Firefox: Menu → Settings → General → Performance → untick Use recommended performance settings → tick Use hardware acceleration when available → restart Firefox.
- Safari (Mac): hardware acceleration is always on, so go straight to step 2.
- To confirm in Chrome or Edge, open
chrome://gpu(Edge:edge://gpu) and check that Canvas and Compositing say “Hardware accelerated”.
2. Lower Graphics quality
- High — sharpest picture, soft glow around playing notes and extra particle halos. Best for fast computers and large screens.
- Balanced (default) — the same look with a lighter workload. Right for most laptops.
- Minimal — flat notes, no glow, far fewer particles. Use it on older or low-power computers, or if High and Balanced still stutter.
The app also lowers its own resolution automatically if it detects dropped frames.
3. Lightest possible setup (very slow computers)
- Graphics quality: Minimal.
- Animation style: No effects (or Light glow only); or keep an effect and lower its Amount toward 20% and its Glow to 0%.
- Stage background: Pure black, or press Plain black, no lines. Avoid the animated backgrounds (Aurora, Starfield, Neon grid).
- Turn off note labels, and make the browser window smaller if needed.
4. Maximum quality setup (powerful computers)
- Graphics quality: High, with hardware acceleration on.
- Any animation style, with Amount up to 300%, Size up to 250% and Glow up to 200%.
- Use fullscreen (F) for the biggest picture. Bigger screens need more graphics power, so drop back to Balanced if it stutters.
5. Other things that help
- Close other busy tabs, videos and programs.
- Laptops: plug in the charger, and turn off Windows Battery saver / Chrome Energy saver (they cap animation at about 30 fps).
- Keep the browser and graphics drivers up to date.
- Drawing engine: leave on Background thread; switch to Main thread only if the picture misbehaves.
- These settings affect only the live view. Downloaded videos are rendered separately and are always smooth.

What is Piano MIDI Visualizer?
The Piano MIDI Visualizer turns any MIDI file into a falling-notes piano video, right in your browser. Click Import MIDI or simply drag a .mid file onto the stage, and the song loads instantly with its tempo, time signature and tracks. Press Play and coloured bars fall onto a realistic piano keyboard, lighting each key at the exact moment the note sounds, just like the popular piano tutorial and Synthesia-style videos. Play, Practise and Learn With Full Control
Use the transport bar to play, pause, stop, jump back or forward five seconds, or drag the waveform-style seek bar to any point in the song. Slow the music down to 0.1x for careful practice or speed it up to 2x, transpose it up or down in semitones, and set the volume to taste. Set loop points A and B to repeat a difficult passage again and again, with the loop shown right on the timeline. A built-in metronome follows the song’s time signature with an accented first beat, a choice of click sounds, adjustable level and an optional one-bar count-in. You can also tap or click the on-screen piano, or press the computer keys, to play along while the song runs.

The Pianos family has acoustic grand, bright acoustic, honky-tonk, two electric pianos and harpsichord, and the chromatic percussion family covers celesta, glockenspiel, music box, vibraphone, marimba, xylophone, tubular bells and dulcimer. You also get drawbar, rock and church organs, accordions and harmonica, nylon, steel, jazz, clean, muted and distortion guitars, acoustic, finger, pick, fretless, slap and synth basses, plus violin, viola, cello, contrabass, harp and orchestral strings. Every track in your MIDI file appears in the Tracks tab, where you can mute or solo each one and see it in its own colour, so you can focus on just the right hand, just the left hand or a single instrument. The sustain pedal can be switched on or off, with adjustable pedal length and release time, so piano pieces ring the way you expect.

Choose rounded, pill, sharp or glass note shapes, show note names on the bars, and shade the left hand separately. Note names can be shown on white keys, on all keys, only on the C keys, or hidden. The grid lines, hit line, fall speed and keyboard height are all adjustable. The layout is fully responsive, so it works on desktop, laptop, tablet and phone, in light or dark theme, and in fullscreen for presentations and screen recording.
Studio-Grade Audio Engine
The sound is built for clean, professional results. A Gain control, a compressor with threshold, ratio, knee, attack, release and make-up gain, and a safety limiter keep loud passages punchy and free from clipping. Normalise to a peak or average loudness target, remove DC offset, add warmth, widen the stereo image and set the left-right balance. All of these settings are applied to the downloaded audio too, so what you hear is what you export.
