Sheet Music Recorder & Editor
Turn your playing into sheet music with a MIDI keyboard, computer keyboard or touch screen, then edit and export – all in your browser.
Click Connect so the browser can see your MIDI keyboard. If your browser has no Web MIDI support, play with the computer keyboard or the on-screen piano instead.
Home row (A S D F G H J K L ; ') plays the white keys, the row above (W E T Y U O P) plays the black keys. With the default octave, A is middle C (C4).
Hold several keys for chords. Change the octave with the Keyboard octave slider. There are no single-letter shortcuts, so no letter key ever interrupts recording; Ctrl combinations (Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+C copy ...), Space, Delete, Home and the arrow keys still work.
Notes are rounded to the grid so they print as clean notation. Use a finer grid for fast passages.
Click or tap the staff with the Note tool to add a note, or switch on Step to write notes from the piano. Drag notes up or down to change the pitch, and use the arrows to nudge them. Triplets and other tuplets are not supported, and everything is shown on one grand staff.
Import a MIDI file or a MusicXML score (.musicxml, .xml, .mxl) with the Import button and edit it here.
The title and name are printed at the top of the downloaded sheet (PDF) and saved in the MusicXML and MIDI files.
Section names are drawn above the bar where they start, and appear in the downloaded sheet and MusicXML.
When this is on, a text box appears above every bar of the score. Type the words for that bar and separate the syllables with spaces (put a hyphen after a syllable when the word continues, like Hel- lo); each one is placed under a note in order. Press Enter or Tab to jump to the next bar.
Your file is created on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Use PDF for printing, MusicXML or MIDI for other music software, and WAV or MP3 to share the sound.

What Is the Sheet Music Recorder & Editor?
The IndiPiano Sheet Music Recorder & Editor is a free online sheet music recorder that turns what you play into readable sheet music while you play it. You see a full piano grand staff (treble and bass clef) on top and a realistic 88-key piano keyboard below it. Play the on-screen keys, your computer keyboard or a connected MIDI keyboard, press the red record button, and your notes appear on the staff as proper notation with rests, ties, beams and accidentals. Everything runs inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and no account or login is needed.
Record Piano Notes as Sheet Music
Set your time signature and key signature from the quick selectors next to the transport buttons, choose a tempo, and press record. A count-in and an optional metronome click keep you in time. Every note you play is rounded to the grid you choose, from quarter notes down to thirty-second notes, so a rough performance still prints as clean notation. You can add your new notes on top of existing music or replace a part, and you can play along while the score scrolls with the playhead. Use the sheet toggle between the score and the piano to switch between one row of music and two rows.
Edit Notes Directly on the Staff
The recorded music is fully editable. Click the Note tool and then click on the staff to place a note, pick a note length from whole note to thirty-second note, and add dots, sharps, flats or naturals. With the Select tool you can drag notes to a new pitch or time, move them by a semitone or an octave, duplicate or delete them, and use Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and Ctrl+Z to copy, paste and undo. Press play at any time to hear the score with the instrument sound you selected, and fine-tune the sound with the reverb, equalizer and other effects in the Sound Settings.
Import MIDI and MusicXML Files
You do not have to start from a blank page. Use Import file to open a MIDI file (.mid, .midi) or a MusicXML score (.musicxml, .xml, .mxl), and it loads straight into the editor as notation you can change, transpose, play back and record over. This makes the tool handy for cleaning up a MIDI recording from your digital piano, editing a score exported from MuseScore, Finale, Sibelius or Dorico, or checking how a MIDI file looks as sheet music. Please note that scanned PDFs and photos of sheet music cannot be read, because that needs optical music recognition rather than a MusicXML or MIDI file.
Download Your Score as MIDI, MusicXML, WAV or MP3
When you are happy with your music, open the Download panel and choose the format you need. Export a MIDI file to continue in your music software, a MusicXML file to open the score in notation programs, or a WAV or MP3 audio file to share your performance. All processing happens on your own device, so your music stays private. Whether you are a student writing down a piece you are learning, a teacher preparing an exercise or a composer sketching an idea, this free online sheet music editor gets you from a played idea to written notation in minutes.
